The protection of marine areas is a key effort in terms of the protection of the seas. The areas we protect are named Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) because they are ecologically important for maintaining marine ecosystems.
We protect areas that are crucial for keeping aquatic ecosystems healthy, such as breeding and spawning areas for important marine species, and areas of particular importance for biodiversity that maintain ecosystem function. We work with trusted organizations such as the Coral Reef Alliance.
Our partners work to ensure that Marine Protected Areas (MPA ) areas’ legal protection status is enforced, supporting the necessary infrastructure to prevent illegal and destructive activities. They cooperate with local communities to patrol marine areas, check illegal sewage dumping, which helps keep the waters clean. If necessary, they introduce sustainable fishing practices and management programs and organize boat patrols to ensure that the boundaries of marine protected areas are not violated.
